The Global Poverty Act passed by voice vote in the House just now!
Back in June, ONE members wrote letters to key representatives to move this bill out of committee and ONE super volunteers have been working to move the bill ahead for months. During today’s debate, members of Congress gave ONE partners Bread for the World and RESULTS well-deserved shout outs for their excellent work on the legislation.
Note: A Global Poverty Act must be introduced and passed in the Senate, as well, in order for this act to turn into the law.
What would the act do you ask? We’re one step ahead of you, so check out the below. As always, throw questions or comments into the comment thread.
What the Global Poverty Act does:
The ONE Blog is a daily log of the anti-poverty movement. The site is operated by ONE staff, with frequent contributions from volunteers, members and partner organizations.
The ONE Blog updates readers daily with the latest in global development news and analysis and what ONE members and our partners are doing around the world to influence world leaders in the fight against global poverty.
The content of each post and each comment represents the views of that author and does not necessarily reflect the views of ONE or ONE Action. ONE does not support or oppose any candidate for elected office, and any post expressing support or opposition for a candidate is not endorsed by ONE.

America’s war on poverty has cost untold billions of dollars and millions of lives(abortion). It’s been a multiple generational entrapment for millions more.To force taxpayers,at the end of a barrel of a gun, (just try to not pay)to finance another huge department for yet another redistribution of wealth away from the middle classes to the lower classes, will have the effect of eleminating the rapidly dissappearing middle classes. The new dark ages that will result will be a bennifit to very few.Let’s deligate charity back to the churches,do away with our already overbearing taxes and government, bring back the easily paid ten percent tythe and once again outlaw usury. These steps alone will go a long way to ridding us of poverty.
