Walking around the outskirts of the crowd at Sen. Tom Harkin’s Steak Fry is similar to being in the last row at a concert. You’re there but you’re not really there. I decided as Sen. Harkin finished up his opening remarks, and before the candidates spoke, that I would try and get as close to the action as possible. A few minutes later I found myself surrounded by navy blue T-shirts, flying signs and people screaming for each candidate.
Having my camera with me I started taking photos of the candidates speaking as well as the throngs of people who were all around me. I noticed something as I was scanning through the photos. No matter what sign was being held there was an underlying theme in the photos; white bands. ONE bracelets were around people’s wrists, no matter which candidate they were supporting. -Joe Crimmings |
