The ONE Team was present when Senator Fred Thompson made his first official speech in Iowa since becoming a presidential candidate. We arrived early at the packed event to make sure we would be visible. We were front and center with the only thing standing between us and the Senator was the podium.

He gave his speech and after it was over walked the front to shake hands. We fought our way through the media frenzy that ensued. Because of the commotion we weren’t able to ask him a question, but we were able to give him a bracelet and mention The ONE Campaign to him. Before he got whisked away he thanked us for the bracelet. We look forward to hearing what he has to say on the issues of extreme poverty!

The day we can convince Fred Thompson that the ONE agenda (and the Sach’s approach to poverty in general) is good then we’ll know we have clearly changed the frame of the debate, which is all we need to do (or rather, is happening and we need to accelerate).

Then we sit back and hope the economists and health experts who designed these policies are right–because we’re only going to get one shot at this in the early 21st century. We have to make poverty history or people who think is really is impossible.
