The steamy August weather didn’t stop 86 Miamians from showing up for the ONE Campaign Miami “Re-Launch” event last Friday.
Heather, an active member of the Miami ONE group and local promoter, provided space for us at the chic and elegant Sagamore Hotel right on the ocean near Lincoln Road. Danielle, Adam and Alix were kept hopping during the meet and greet. Adam prepared a terrific presentation with embedded short videos and music to explain the work of ONE and how all the new volunteers could participate. Representatives from RESULTS, Heifer and Amnesty International were also in attendance and we look forward to working with them more closely in the future.
In the week since the Miami “re-launch” our Yahoo!Group membership is up over 30% quickly breaking the 100 member mark with new members expressing their desire to participate. Members immediately got active off-line as well organizing a local charity concert featuring Universal recording artist Jorge Correa to benefit survivors of the devastating earthquake in Peru (being held tonight) as well as teaming up with local groups to participate in Fashion Fights Poverty next week in South Beach. To top it off local members Cibeles Duran and Ana Orturo carried off a successful lobby visit with Congressman Lincoln Diaz-Balart this afternoon (see related post) while we expect a strong showing for a Barack Obama event on Saturday.
