Thursday’s meeting of the local ONE group “ONE Vegas” was a great success. We had over 30 members attend. They are all looking to get more actively involved in the fight against global poverty and disease. We discussed topics ranging from the ONE Vote ‘08 initiative to the push for Senate reform on the Farm Bill.
We will have many opportunities this month to make our voices heard and directly approach presidential candidates about the need to eradicate extreme poverty in our lifetime.
All of the faces present, and the energy in the room completely disproved the oft made assertion that Las Vegas is a desert, not only when it comes to water, but also when it comes to socially conscious people looking to do something. This was assisted in no small part by John and Herc, the owners of our meeting location, the Rejavanate Coffee House. Their stated goal is to be a hub for the creative arts and for activism in the Las Vegas valley. I am looking forward to our next meeting, and to hearing from our members their thoughts and ideas on how we can further reach out to and volunteer in Las Vegas. Viva ONE.
