“Eliminating existing commodity payments would allow Congress to redirect billions of dollars into alternative-support systems for American farmers and other programs that support rural livelihood, including nutrition, conservation, and rural development. Congress has the opportunity to do well by U.S. farmers while also making a major stride against extreme poverty around the world. I don’t believe the majority of Americans embrace using taxpayer money to pay out damaging subsidies that prevent small farmers in America and across the world from producing and selling their goods.
“Let Congress know that it needs to do what is best for the common good now. Five years is a long time to look back and wish we got it right.”
