Mayor Rudy Giuliani was in town this morning for breakfast with some New Hampshire voters. In his speech, he gave a quick example about what it means to be a US Ambassador: He said that as an ambassador your job is in part to explain what America is to the world.
After the speech the mayor came around and shook hands with people in the room. I was able to give him a ONE band, which he recognized and put on.
Later, I was able to speak with Mayor Giuliani and told him that as a ONE member, I thought our US efforts to fight AIDS and extreme poverty in Africa show the world exactly the type of people Americans are.
Our efforts with the ONE Campaign represent a partnership between the best of Americans and of Africans. We are saving lives in the developing world and when we do so, we become ambassadors of our own country in the poorest nations.
