Congresswoman Illeana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) has just announced that she will join Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-NY) in co-sponsoring the 2007 GROWTH Act.
The GROWTH Act (The Global Resources and Opportunities for Women to Thrive Act) is legislation designed to empower women living in extreme poverty. The Act would re-shape U.S. foreign assistance and trade policy to:
-Promote women’s ability to start and grow businesses
-Enhance women’s land and property right
-Increase women’s access to high quality education and improve wages and conditions in work places dominated by women.
-Ensure benefits of trade agreements reach poor women
This announcement came shortly after ONE members visited the Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen’s district office in Miami, Florida, on Thursday and delivered 157 letters from members in her district urging her to support the Act.
Great work Alix Gordon and everyone who attended and worked to pull this meeting together. Expect to hear more soon on how to support this bipartisan legislation as it moves through Congress
