We want as many people to attend the 2007 ONE member trainings as possible, so last month, we asked ONE members to apply for one of eight $250 travel stipends. Over 2,500 people applied, and today I get to announce yet another ONE scholar:
Brian Sweeney of Jonestown, PA!

Hello. My name is Brian Sweeney and I would like to thank the ONE Campaign for awarding me the travel stipend to attend the training in New York City this Saturday. I have started a chapter of ONE here in Central Pennsylvania and we’re calling ourselves “ONE-Central PA. Our local ONE Yahoo group is steadily growing.
ONE-Central PA is working with our local churches to help raise awareness and we are planning to be a part of our local town parade by building a float dedicated to the ONE Campaign this August. Following the parade we will be putting together a community event in which our mayor will sign a proclamation making our town a city of ONE. Next week we will be, again, raising awareness at Lebanon Valley College’s “ValleyFest” (the college’s spring fling) where one of our PA state representatives has agreed to stop and sign the ONE Declaration. I’ve recently been informed that we may receive some media coverage from two local television stations. Cross your fingers!
ONE-Central PA’s future plans include getting our local government involved, including Governor Rendell, with ONE’s initiatives. We’ll also be raising awareness with our civic groups, church congregations, and other colleges.
I am thoroughly looking forward to the training in New York City because I will be learning new information and meeting new people. I am also hopeful that I will become a better volunteer field organizer/leader by listening to other people’s experiences. Hope to see you there!
