Gone Fishing

Saturday evening I was on my way to visit a friend when I saw a young group of guys standing outside in the cold, surrounded by amplifiers, guitar cases, and drum kits. Curiosity made me stop by to see what these guys were doing.

As it turned out, they were members of two bands, Eternal State and Deadly Intentions. They were going to perform at the Rockin’ Fish Cafe that evening but they were locked out. A few minutes later, Bev Yoakum, the owner, pulled up with keys in hand. Immediately bells & whistles went off in my head. I asked Bev if I could give her a flier to promote On The Move and ONE.org. Coincidentally, Bev had been reading about ONE online and thought it would be pretty cool if I’d come and talk about the Campaign a bit at the concert. Luckily, I still had materials in my car!:)

When I got inside, I thought I had died and gone to ONE.org heaven. The bands were setting up and U2 music was blasting over the sound system to a packed room. As fortune would have it, my friend’s daughter, Brianne was there and was anxious to help. The stars were obviously in alignment!

I set up my portable ONE table and talked to the audience about ONE. Afterward, Brianne led the march to the ONE table and we got 50 new signatures for the ONE Declaration. Not bad for an impromptu visit. Bev and I have started the makings of what will be a beautiful partnership here in Chillicothe. Thanks Bev. I guess it does pay to stop and strike up conversations with strangers.
