Hillary: the ONE that didn’t get away

Saturday night I attended the New Hampshire 100 Club dinner in Nashua where Senator Clinton gave the keynote address. In her speech she spoke about America responding to the poorest nations in the world. Hearing this I was very eager to speak with her about the ONE Campaign and give her a ONE band.

After the speech Senator Clinton shook hands with many New Hampshire voters and I made my way through the crowd. I received a few emails from ONE members saying they saw me on CSPAN waiting to meet Senator Clinton. But just as I was a few people away from her, security took her out of the room! I was somewhat disappointed but I knew that she would be back in New Hampshire and I, along with other ONE members, will be able to talk with her to make sure that she knows that fighting AIDS and poverty in Africa is a priority for our country.

I spoke with some ONE members and supporters in the lobby as I made my way to the exit of the venue. As I reached the door, I spotted Senator Clinton exiting a set of doors across the way. I yelled out “Dare to dream Senator,” (her 2000 tag line) and held up the ONE band. Her aides saw this and waved me close to the vehicle she was getting into. I reached in the open back end of the SUV and Hillary reached across the back seat. She said “I know what this is” as I gave her the ONE band, and I thanked her for not forgetting the bottom billion people in her speech. She thanked me and put the band on.

It was a lucky ONE moment here in New Hampshire, but I know that we will have many more with all the candidates from both parties, as together we work to make fighting poverty a priority during this primary season.
