This morning I went with other ONE volunteers to listen to presidential hopeful former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney speak at a general store in Hollis, NH.
During his talk Governor Romney stated that it was important for the United States and the rest of the world to implement what he called a “Second Marshall Plan” in places like Nigeria that would address poverty in global hotspots and help protect America’s national security.
Governor Romney also talked about comprehensive solutions in his plan that would include fair trade condition and tackle education issues in addition to monetary aid.
I spoke with the governor afterwards about the ONE Campaign and why I think that we as Americans should be fighting AIDS and poverty in the developing world. He told me that he was familiar with the ONE Campaign and said we are speaking the same language. I was proud to give him a ONE band which he immediately put on his wrist.
For me, being a member of the ONE Campaign is an opportunity to show our elected officials and candidates that people here in America do care about global issues and we are going to make sure they know fighting AIDS and poverty is not only possible, it is a priority.

Romney was born and raised in an atmosphere of service. The Church spends millions of dollars and man hours to help developing countries. Men like Ezra Taft Benson as secretary of Agriculture under Eisenhower, Bennett, and Hatch have been outstanding in their political assignments. I know Mitt will surround himself with men who can get the job done.

I am from Canada , and yes – like Mitt Romney, I am also a Mormon. I was raised Catholic but because of my Chinese background, I also practiced Buddhism until I converted to “Mormonism” in 1998.
As a resident of North America, I believe that Americans should unite behind a man who can get the country back to where it was; and the only person who can do that is Mitt Romney. His life is all about service yet he is a very established and unquestionably succesful businessman. None of the other candidates have his credentials and his capabilities. He is also a man of peace – and a man of God. He has excellent moral standards which will put America up a higher level. Probably one of his best credentials and the best help he can get is that of having an untainted wife who is just as willing as he is to serve not just the American people but the whole world. The last thing America needs is a first lady who can be called by “different names and adjectives” and be seen in racy outfits and pictures.
As do all other Christian denominations, he believes in Christ and loves the savior too much to have done service in his name and for his people.
Vote Mitt Romney for a better and prosperous America. Because a chaotic America brings chaos to the whole world.

I like Mitt Romney and was prepared to vote for him as President. If it turns out he is the Republican nominee, I will still vote for him…but I won’t in the primary. One little remark changed my mind. “…we don’t need ham radio operators”.
Homeland Security seems to differ in their opinion. They’ve stated, I believe, that hams are a necessary, valuable asset to this country.
Mr. Romney shows little or no understanding of the importance of ham radio operators in this country. I believe his brief, casual remark, has cost him a good many votes, votes from selfless, giving, hard working, people from all walks of life, who put themsleves in dangerous positions to keep communications open during disasters. Too bad. I believe Mr. Romney to be a good man, and I admire his values, but I’m now voting for the Baptist.
Oh, by the way, many hams may not vote for him, but they would still be there to help him if they were needed in a disaster. That’s just the way they are.
I suspect there will be some sort of an attempt at an apology, but the damage is done.

@ C. Parker: I believe other ham radio operators have looked at the entire incident that you are referring to and have come to a different conclusion about Mitt’s opinion on that. I haven’t seen it, but I’m sure you google it you’ll be able to find about another blogger that posted a conversation he’d had with Mitt directly after the event and Mitt stated that in times of normal operation, ham radio operators would not enhance nor supersede normal emergency services communications, but did value their potential in times when those systems were out of commission. The ham operator was pleased with the response.
@ T Walsh: Here’s what Romney is really like: http://confessionsofapoliticaljunkie.blogspot.com/2007/11/how-often-do-candidates-do-stuff-like.html . It’s refreshing to see a front-runner doing something so selfless without the limelight. This is the kind of guy we need in office.

huckabees sheep skin is wearing thin. His group came to a convention in Salt with the idea of converting all the Mormons to Christianity. They have gone out of their way to spread the word that Mormons are non Christian. Huckabee knows full well what the “Mormons” believe. the world has discovered that “Mormons” (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) teach more Christian doctorine than most other denominations. The name says it all. If he doesn’t want his boat to sink, he will have to do some fast bailing. Romney is steady in his thinking, in spite accusations to the contrary. More and more, he is being recognised as a solid front runner. non related accusations are evaporating like a drop of water on a hot stove.

If posting Huckabees’ voting record is viewed as being negative information, maybe the Huckster shouldn’t have voted that way. If he is proud of his voting record on immigration and taxes, then the ads are anything but negative. Just comparisons, so people can know where each candidate stands.
Speaking of negativity, Huckabee, (the Baptist preacher, for any of you who have missed that pandering), makes negative comments about Mormons constantly through innuendo and sly questions, such as the Jesus/Satan thing. Then he pretends (remember, he is a Baptist Preacher, just in case you didn’t figure this out the first time I said it) that he knows little about Mormons and their beliefs. Yes, this is the same Huckabee (the Baptist Preacher) who went to the Salt Lake City Southern Baptists Convention and preached anti-Mormon garbage there.
Not that religion has anything to do with qualifications for President of the United States, but you would think that Huckabee (you know, . . .The Baptist Preacher), being all righteous and above all the negativity, would at least let us know what his real qualification are to run the country, balance the budget, end the war, lower taxes, etc.
Hey, lets just all go vote for him because, you know, he is a Baptist Preacher (Christian and all), just like us!

This morning I read an article stating that“ The unexpectedly large fundraising total raised by Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney in the first quarter of 2007 had less to do with a“ Mormon network” than with the former Massachusetts governor’ s business acumen and strong ties with the financial community nationwide, according to political analysts.”
