Born in California, Chris Berry moved to Africa at 18, where he studied the music, immersed himself in the culture and became a highly respected musician. Soon he was selling out stadiums and has now sold more than a million albums.

We are thrilled that Chris Berry, and his band Panjea, have decided to donate their song “911″ as this week’s installment of the ONE Music series.

“As a young boy I was touched by the music and therefore the spirit of Africa. It lifted my life from meaninglessness into meaning.

When I was finally old enough to journey to Africa I found a place of
wealth and richness not the place of poverty and despair I was told it was. Yes there was suffering and material poverty but I was more
struck by the wealth of spirit that exuded through all of the physical
and material hardship.

I am reminded of this undefeatable spirit every time I hear African
music. It is time to work together to help lift the burden and let
Africa sing its song to the world. A song that can lead us all to a
new kind of freedom. A freedom in knowing the spirit can never be
defeated.”
