Joey Cheek, recent speed-skating
Olympic gold winner announced that he would donate his $25,000 bonus for winning
the gold to the children of Sudan’s conflict ridden Darfur region. The Greensboro North
Carolina
native said, “I wanted to make it meaningful.
It’s empowering to think of someone else.” Cheek has also challenged his
sponsors to match his donation. He plans on visiting the Darfur region where over 2 million people have been forced
to flee from the conflict.
